Hydrogen is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic, highly flammable gas; it is the lightest element and the most abundant in the universe. When burning in air, it can produce a pale blue, barely visible flame. Primary applications include: chemical production (ammonia, methanol), hydrogenation in the food industry, protective/reducing atmospheres in metalworking (argon/hydrogen mixtures in TIG, etc.), plasma welding/cutting, stainless steel processing, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, fuel cells, and rocket/high-thrust applications. Hydrogen is produced in industry primarily through natural gas steam reforming (SMR), as well as electrolysis and some hydrocarbon/byproduct recovery methods.
