Liquid Nitrogen (LIN)
Symbol: N₂ • Boiling point (1 atm): −196 °C • Liquid density: approx. 0.81 kg/L.
Liquid nitrogen (LIN) is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable cryogenic liquid obtained by cooling nitrogen to −196 °C. When it evaporates, it expands to approximately 694 times its volume as nitrogen gas. It is used both for its very low temperature (freezing, cooling) and for its inert nature (oxygen-free atmospheres).
Liquid nitrogen supply from OĞULGAZ: on-site cryogenic tank installation with regular tanker deliveries, delivery in portable cryogenic cylinders, and filling of your existing tank — for the food, laboratory, metal and chemical sectors. Based in Istanbul, we have been serving the Marmara region since 1991.

What Is Liquid Nitrogen?
Liquid nitrogen is produced by cryogenic air separation. Nitrogen, which makes up about 78% of air, is liquefied by cooling it to −196 °C and stored in vacuum-insulated tanks.
Liquid nitrogen has two key properties: its very low temperature freezes products within seconds and preserves samples for long periods, while its inert nature protects environments where reactions with oxygen must be avoided. This gives it a very wide range of uses, from food and healthcare to metals and chemicals.

Liquid Nitrogen Applications
- Food: rapid freezing of meat, seafood, bakery products and fruit; cold chain and protective atmospheres in food packaging.
- Laboratories and healthcare: storage of biological samples, cells and tissue (cryopreservation), IVF centers and cryotherapy in dermatology.
- Metalworking: shrink fitting of parts such as bearings and bushings, and protective atmospheres in heat treatment.
- Chemicals and petrochemicals: inerting (blanketing) and purging of tanks and lines with nitrogen.
- Plastics and rubber: cryogenic deflashing and cryogenic grinding of heat-sensitive materials.
- Electronics: oxygen-free atmospheres in soldering and production processes.
Supply Options
On-site tank installation and tanker filling
For facilities with high, continuous liquid nitrogen consumption, a vacuum-insulated cryogenic tank and vaporizer are installed on your site. The tank is refilled regularly by tanker according to its level, eliminating cylinder changes and stock tracking.
Portable cryogenic cylinders
For medium consumption, laboratories or temporary needs, liquid nitrogen is delivered to your facility in portable cryogenic cylinders (dewars).
Filling your existing tank
If you have your own cryogenic tank or dewar, we fill it for you. We plan the filling frequency together according to your consumption.
If you need small quantities of nitrogen as a compressed gas, see our nitrogen gas in cylinders.
Safe Handling
- Risk of asphyxiation: as liquid nitrogen evaporates, it reduces the oxygen in the air; this can cause loss of consciousness without warning. Do not use it in enclosed spaces, use an oxygen monitor where necessary, and do not enter areas where the oxygen level falls below 19.5%.
- Cold burns: contact with the liquid at −196 °C causes serious injuries. Wear cryogenic gloves, a face shield and long-sleeved work clothing.
- Pressure build-up: liquid nitrogen evaporates continuously. Never put it in completely sealed containers; only use cryogenic containers with relief valves.
- Transport: cryogenic containers must not be carried in closed passenger vehicles.
Frequently Asked Questions
What temperature is liquid nitrogen?
Liquid nitrogen boils at −196 °C at atmospheric pressure. It is the most widely used cryogenic liquid in industry.
Where can I buy liquid nitrogen?
Liquid nitrogen is obtained from industrial gas suppliers. OĞULGAZ supplies liquid nitrogen in Istanbul and the Marmara region through on-site tank installation and tanker filling, portable cryogenic cylinders or filling of your existing tank.
Is liquid nitrogen dangerous?
Liquid nitrogen is neither flammable nor toxic; however, it is extremely cold and, as it evaporates, it reduces the oxygen in the air, creating a risk of asphyxiation. It must be used in well-ventilated areas with suitable protective equipment.
How long can liquid nitrogen be stored?
Even in vacuum-insulated containers, liquid nitrogen evaporates slowly and continuously. The storage time depends on the size and insulation of the container; we can help you choose the right container and filling frequency.
How is the price of liquid nitrogen determined?
The price depends on consumption, the supply method, delivery frequency and location. Fill in the quote form for a price tailored to you.
Which regions do you deliver to?
